How to clean sanitary regulating valves

Release Date:2026-10-31       BrowseNumber of times:4
In industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, sanitary regulating valves are widely used for precise control of medium flow and pressure. Due to the extremely high hygiene requirements in these industries, regular cleaning of regulating valves is particularly important. Proper cleaning methods can not only extend the service life of the valve but also effectively prevent cross-contamination, ensuring product quality and production safety.

I. Structural characteristics of sanitary regulating valves

Sanitary regulating valves usually adopt stainless steel materials (such as 316L), with polished surfaces, good corrosion resistance, and smooth inner walls, which are convenient for cleaning and sterilization. The structural design focuses on sealing and no dead corners to avoid medium residue, in line with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements.

II. The necessity of cleaning

During the long-term operation of regulating valves, they may become contaminated or blocked due to medium deposition, microbial growth, or residual reaction products. Especially after transporting media with high viscosity, particles, or easy crystallization, if not cleaned in time, it will seriously affect the performance of the valve and the hygiene safety of the system.

III. Cleaning methods

1. Online cleaning (CIP, Clean-In-Place)
CIP is a method of cleaning without disassembling the valve, suitable for highly automated production systems. By circulating the cleaning fluid (such as alkali, acid, or disinfectant) to flush the internal valve, it can effectively remove dirt and bacteria. After cleaning, it is also necessary to flush thoroughly with purified water or injection water to ensure that there is no residue of cleaning agents.

2. Offline cleaning
For valves that are difficult to be thoroughly cleaned by CIP or during periodic deep maintenance, the valves need to be removed from the system for manual cleaning. This process includes:
- Disassemble all parts of the valve;
- Use soft bristles to remove visible dirt;
- Use mild cleaning agents for soaking and brushing;
- Rinse with deionized water and then dry or dry it;
- Check whether the sealing parts have aged, and replace them if necessary.

3. Sterilization treatment
After cleaning is completed, high-temperature steam sterilization or chemical sterilization should be carried out according to process requirements to ensure that the sterile standard is met.

IV. Precautions

- Cleaning agents should be selected that are non-corrosive to stainless steel and non-polluting to the environment;
- Do not use rigid metal brushes or abrasives to avoid scratching the inner wall of the valve body, affecting the hygiene grade;
- Regularly inspect the wear condition of key components such as seals and valve cores, and replace damaged parts in a timely manner;
- Establish cleaning records, including cleaning time, cleaning agent type, and operator information, for traceability and quality control.

V. Conclusion

Sanitary regulating valves, as key components in high-purity systems, their cleaning work cannot be neglected. Only through scientific and standardized cleaning processes can the normal operation of the valves and the hygiene safety of the system be guaranteed. Enterprises should formulate reasonable cleaning plans and operational procedures according to their own production process characteristics, ensuring that every step strictly conforms to GMP and relevant industry standards, thereby ensuring the quality and safety of the final product.
